The West Nyack AHEPA Chapter 455, on December 15, not only celebrated the Christmas season with its annual Christmas Dinner but also honored two members with the Ahepan of the Year Award. Leo Michaels and Ted Modanos both completed 47 years in the Brotherhood and coincidently both were initiated together back on December 11, 1975.
Michaels is the Chapter Chaplain and a Past Chapter President as well as serving his community for decades as Choir Director at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Modanos is also musically talented and was part of the founding of the Chapter’s Glee Club and serves in the Choir of Saints Constantine and Helen. Modanos has been the unsung hero for decades working the Greek festivals in food preparation always with a smile and a great attitude to serve his community.
The event was very successful and was attended by over 65 brothers, family members, and guests. The District 6 Lodge was represented by Governor Dean Moskos with his wife Stephanie and Director of Hellenism Vassilios Chrissochos who accompanied his father-in-law, Ted Ziotis, a long-term Chapter member. The evening included AHEPA plaque presentations to the honorees by the Chairman of the event, Past President George Hanos, and remarks made by the current Chapter President Michael Tribunella and Governor Moskos.
