The Greek presence was strong in the Beijing Marathon, with Greece giving the start signal on Sunday, October 29, in the Chinese capital, ANA reports.
At 07:30 am, the Greek ambassador to China Evgenios Kalpyris, together with the mayor of Beijing, Yin Yong, gave the signal to the marathon runners to start the race. A total of 30,000 athletes took part in the Beijing Marathon, with Deresa Geleta Ulfata of Ethiopia finishing first in 2:07:41.
After the end of the race, the Greek Ambassador awarded SEGAS commemorative medals to pacers, volunteers, judges, and medical staff who participated and supported the “Marathon Spirit” with their work during the race.
Greece participated with its own pavilion in the Beijing Marathon Expo special exhibition organized from October 26 to 28 along with the most important Chinese sports organizations and large commercial companies active in the field of sports.
