With a formal dinner and the customary cutting of the New Year’s vasilopita cake Pan Gregorian – New Jersey and the Pan Gregorian Fund philanthropic foundation celebrated the new year on Monday, January 8 at the Graycliff catering hall.
Before the dinner the offices in Kenilworth City, NJ of the company – which is a Greek-American cooperative serving the restaurant and food industries – were blessed with Holy Water by Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey. During his greetings, Metropolitan Apostolos mentioned that the sacred custom of the vasilopita symbolizes the spirit of family, solidarity, love, and concord.
He added that “two words come to my mind today, companion and supporter because the church and Pan Gregorian share a common goal, to be united as a nation and in our language. Greece and its culture are light, just like our church, and you share abundant light through your work. I thank you for everything you have offered for decades to society. I wish you to continue your commendable work and always be well and blessed.”
The president of Pan Gregorian, Michalis Zavolas offered New Year’s greetings to the Greek-American community through The National Herald, saying he wishes, “many years of happiness, health, and progress to the Greek community” and referred to the successful work of the organization over the past 39 years, which, as he said, is due to the countless number of people who have volunteered and donated money.
