A set of EU regulations establishing a dedicated airspace for drones, known as U-space, came into effect on Thursday, said the European Commission, ANA reports.
U-space is a set of specific services and procedures designed to ensure safe and efficient access to airspace for a big number of drones, based on advanced digitalization and automation, according to the Commission.
These rules will help carry out more complex and longer-distance operations, such as the transport of medical samples, aid to first responders at an emergency scene, and remote infrastructure inspections, among many other scenarios.
