The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogiannis, had a meeting with the Ambassador of Armenia to Greece, Mr. Tigran Mkrtchyan, today, with a focus on expanding cooperation between the two countries in the tourism sector.
During the discussion, the importance of air connectivity between Athens and Yerevan was emphasized, with the aim of establishing daily flights, which is expected to strengthen tourist flows.
Mr. Mkrtchyan expressed the gratitude of the Armenian side for the long-standing contribution of Greece in the field of tourism education, recalling the establishment of the first tourism school in Armenia in 2005 with Greek support. At the same time, he referred to the hosting of students of the Armenian-Greek College of Tourism in Rethymno last summer, for internships in Greek tourism enterprises.
The Minister of Tourism underlined the close cooperation between Greece and Armenia in the World Tourism Organization and thanked the Armenian side for supporting the candidacy of former Minister Mr. Haris Theocharis for the position of Secretary General.
Among the topics discussed were the development of special forms of tourism, such as religious, agricultural, medical and wine tourism, while it was decided to convene the First Joint Tourism Committee in the near future. The possibility of Greek participation in both the World Tourism Communication Forum that Armenia will host in Yerevan at the end of the month, as well as the International Tourism Exhibition that will be held in the Armenian capital on November 21-23, was also examined.
