The Hollywood movie Dirty Angels starring Eva Green and Ruby Rose starts shooting in Thessaloniki, Greece on Monday, according to greekreporter.com.
Directed by Martin Campbell, who was also the movie maker of two James Bond films in the past, Dirty Angels is an action movie. Filming will take place in various locations in Thessaloniki as well as other places in northern Greece.
The Millennium Media film is set against the backdrop of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 and “follows a group of female soldiers posing as medical relief who are sent back in to rescue a group of kidnapped teenagers caught between ISIS and the Taliban.”
The story – written by Alissa Silverman – is a fictional tale set against the true backdrop of the United States withdrawing military forces from Afghanistan in 2021.
Dirty Angels movie costs 35 million euros
The Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas stated that, in addition to the Thermi studios, filming would occur in other locations as well such as Asvestochori, Peraia, areas in the western parts of Thessaloniki, and the mountainous Halkidiki.
“This film costs 35 million euros, of which 25 million, will be spent here in our region. We are talking about at least 250 new jobs for this film alone,” Tzitzikostas said recently.
“Young Greek professionals that have been unemployed for years who weren’t able to find jobs based on their studies will now be absorbed through this mobility. Filming in Greece will last three months. Then, the film will be completed in Morocco while post-production will once again take place in Thessaloniki,” he noted.
Millennium Media’s Avi Lerner, Boaz Davidson, Trevor Short, Jonathan Yunger, and Jeffrey Greenstein will serve as executive producers.
It’s unclear if Millennium has a release schedule planned out at this time.
Hollywood films putting Thessaloniki on the map
Thessaloniki has become a magnet for big Hollywood productions in recent years.
In October, another Hollywood movie Red Sonja, a science fiction and action remake of its already existing comic book and 1985 film, was shot at Thermi studios in Thessaloniki. The post-production is also set to take place there. Post-production occurs after the acting is finished, and involves cutting, assembling, dubbing, and adding any special visual and/or sound effects.
“The Expendables 4” was filmed there in November 2021 with Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, and Andy Garcia.
