Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis responded in the Hellenic Parliament to a question from NIKI leader Dimitris Natsios regarding the Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection, ANA reports.
“ The research and laying of the electrical cable are fully permitted and secured by international law. There can be no hindrance from another state,” Gerapetritis noted. He added that the project has been approved by the European Commission, which conducts a stringent evaluation before granting any funds from the community budget.
“ The Greek government is committed to continuing and completing this project. We do not believe that any geopolitical risks will impede the Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection. The Greek state anticipates no issues related to geopolitical risks,” Gerapetritis pointed out, describing the interconnection as crucial for ending Cyprus’s energy isolation and providing significant relief from high electricity prices.
